Science Fiction Book Club

The Science Fiction Book Club (or SFBC) is one of many clubs run by direct marketing publisher Bookspan (once Book of the Month Club). Selections are sold directly to readers through the mail. It was founded in 1953.

News reported by Jonathan Strahan in 2007 indicated that Bookspan's new owner Bertelsmann would be shutting down the SFBC pub;ishing house as soon as it had fulfilled existing obligations. The website currently lists ownership by Doubleday Direct, Inc. which is part of Bookspan. Then-editors Ellen Asher and Andrew Wheeler left the company as part of that reorganization.
